Work Rights for International Students

International students with a residence permit for studies can work in paid employment for an average of 30 hours per week. This average allows for flexibility; students can work more hours during certain weeks, provided the annual average does not exceed 30 hours per week. During holidays, full-time work is allowed as long as the average remains within the specified limit. Importantly, this limitation does not apply to internships or thesis work that are integral to the student’s degree program

Post-Study Visa

As of April 15, 2022, Finland grants international students residence permits covering the entire duration of their studies, eliminating the need for annual renewals. After graduation, students and researchers are eligible to apply for a two-year residence permit to seek employment or start a business. This application can be submitted up to five years post-graduation, even from outside Finland. Notably, time spent in Finland on a student residence permit now counts toward the four-year continuous residence requirement for a permanent residence permit
